I returned to the Dakar Rally in 2026 with an amazing project close to my heart and my home. After reconnecting with Nathan Hayashi, a mutual friend through skiing, in Mexico at a Sonora Rally event, I learnt about his project to build and race a Ford Bronco at the Dakar Rally, becoming the first Canadian team to do so. Nathan is the founder of The Gear Shop, an offroad garage in Calgary. It was an ambitious goal with plenty of missteps along the way including being run over by a T5 truck while racing in Morocco, but the team ultimately prevailed and made it to the Dakar. No-one gave the team a hope of getting past the first 2 stages, but 14 days later, the Bronco reached the Dakar Podium.

I documented the team’s journey, culminating in a 30 minute film, “Never Give Up”.
